Our business is UK-wide with coverage of most regions. Each year we nominate one main national charity to which we direct the greater part of our fundraising towards. In the year 2011/2012, we are supporting CentrePoint.
Our aim is to address the issues of homelessness, not only through the provision of financial support, but also through providing practical assistance though volunteering labour, advice or materials wherever possible.
Centrepoint provides emergency accommodation, support, information and training for homeless young people. As well as its main operations in London and the North East, Centrepoint has a network of partnering charities across the UK.
Additionally we are a patron of CRASH, the construction and property industries’ charity for the homeless, and we provide support to Macmillan Cancer Support through our sponsorship of the annual House of Lords -v- House of Commons Tug of War.
We are also continuing our involvement with the Head Teachers’ Initiative “Go4It” helping 24 schools to develop cultures of creativity and innovation and to develop practical life skills in pupils of all ages.
Each of our regional businesses operates as an autonomous local homebuilder within their local market and is responsible for their own sponsorship and community support programmes, developed to manage and meet local needs.
Requests for support may be received from members of the local community or from our employees who are involved in charitable works. We aim to support causes linked to our business, the communities in which we operate, our business partners and our employees.
We actively encourage our employees to participate in community and charitable activities, including running fundraising events.
We aim to support the local communities in which we build by being a good neighbour, engaging with local residents and stakeholders, as well as building in a considerate fashion. Examples of our support for local communities through schools programmes and charitable initiatives are detailed more fully in our Corporate Responsibility Report.
