The involvement and support of the community is important to the success of any development. We aim to have a continuous programme of community engagement (involving and consulting the community and keeping them informed) during the lifetime of a development scheme including ongoing discussions with all interested people and groups, from the initial plans and throughout the build process. We are committed to having a consistent approach to community engagement across our development schemes. We aim to listen, respond and meet local needs in the most appropriate way.
We want to carry out community engagement effectively and work together with local authorities, community groups and local people to fully understand their needs and concerns. As we prepare and then make our planning applications, it is important that we understand the local setting of our schemes. We want any planning application we make to have considered feedback from our consultation process and to reflect a commercially viable scheme (one that can be delivered within budget) that is understood by the local community and, where possible, is supported by them. Many of our staff are part of the communities we build in and we become directly involved at a local level in our operational areas, supporting appropriate community development and initiatives.
During the formal planning process, we aim to carry out an effective consultation programme, using various methods such as exhibitions and newsletters to reach out to the people our schemes may affect. We aim to find out the opinions of others on our plans, understand any concerns, listen to the responses we receive, respond and give feedback, and adapt our approach where appropriate.
